About Us
About Us
What is the "VCDCC"?
VCDCC is the acronym for Ventura County Democratic Central Committee, which is the technical name of our organization as it is part of the overall Democratic Party.
We are more commonly known as the “Ventura County Democratic Party”, or VCDP.
What is a Central Committee?
The Central Committee is the governing body of the County Democratic Party. The purpose of the Committee is to:
-
Elect Democratic candidates who reflect Democratic Party values
-
Register & Inform Democratic voters
-
Raise money to support upcoming elections
-
Organize & Support local Democratic clubs
There are about 100 members on the Central Committee, including local Democratic office holders, State Central Committee members who live in the County, folks elected to represent their County supervisorial districts, a representative of each chartered Democratic club, elected ADEMs, and a few others.
How is the VCDCC part of the Democratic Party?
The hierarchy looks something like this:
DNC > CADEM > VCDCC > Local Dem Clubs
THE DNC:
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is the Party’s national governing body. In general, it works on presidential elections and national party building activities and provides support to state parties. The DNC is comprised of state party chairs and vice-chairs, as well as over 200 DNC members who are elected by each state party.
CADEM:
The California Democratic Party (CADEM) is the nation’s largest statewide party, with more than 10 million members. The Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC) is the state party’s governing body. They work on state-wide party building, establish the state party platform, and endorse candidates for state races as well as our representatives to Congress. The DSCC includes representatives from county Democratic parties, elected Assembly District Delegates, and elected officials & their appointees.
VCDCC:
All registered Democrats in Ventura County are members of the County Democratic Party (the VCDCC). The Central Committee is the official governing body within the County, responsible for supporting local elections and endorsements of local candidates (County-level and down). The Central Committee is composed of elected members, elected officials, appointees, and representatives of Local Chartered Democratic Clubs.
LOCAL CHARTERED CLUBS:
Democratic Clubs, like those chartered by VCDCC, are the activist grassroots of the party. They hold events, organize in cities and neighborhoods, and have representation in the Democratic Party endorsement process. Any member of the public can join a local chartered club (subject to each club’s bylaws).
