What are ADEMs?
The Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMs) are held every two years in January to elect seven (7) "self-identified females" and seven (7) "other than self-identified females" to be Assembly District Delegates for their district. ADEMs are elected by voters in their district to vote on behalf of the community they represent at the Ventura County Democratic Party meetings and California's annual Democratic Convention. They are responsible for planning and attending informational meetings throughout the region and working with other delegates to represent their community. Those who are also elected to serve as an Executive Board member are responsible for voting and representing their community at the semi-annual California Democratic Party Executive Board meetings located around the state.
ADEMs are members of the DSCC (Democratic State Central Committee) and are also known as "Delegates". A DSCC delegate is the representative for their County's Central Committee and specific district. Delegates attend the annual Democrats Convention, network with other Democrats, elect Party officers, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures all doing so while representing their constituency.
Members of the DSCC consist of the following: (1) Elected through County Central Committees; (2) Appointed by Democratic elected officials or the highest vote-getting Democrat if no Democrat was elected in the most recent election; (3) Elected through their Assembly District (ADEMs); and (4) DNC State Party Delegates (includes: California DNC members; Current/ Past Officers; Statewide Officers and Regional Directors; and, the Chair of the California Democratic Council, California Young Democrats, and Statewide Chartered Organizations).
