Secretary - Lorrie Brown

​The Secretary is responsible for maintaining all records of the Ventura County Democratic Central Committee.

Lorrie Brown, MPPA is an elected State Delegate for Assembly District 37 and a community activist who ran for Ventura City Council twice. She is not only an educator who is a certified teacher for the Ventura Unified School District, but she owns a writing and communications consultancy called Final Polish, which provides technical writing solutions for businesses, agencies and individuals who need polished media services. She desires to model what it means to be a community advocate, leader and entrepreneur.

She most recently contracted with the City of Ventura to provide consultation services. She previously worked with the County of Ventura’s Public Works department as management assistant and  for the City of Oxnard’s Community Development Department as project management lead.

Brown currently serves as Corresponding Secretary of the CDP African American Caucus, as Program and Communications Committee member of the Ventura Democratic Club, and as Roundtable advisor to the County Board of Supervisors as a member of the Ventura County Women’s Economic Roundtable. She is also a member of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce. She understands that civic engagement is the key to educating the public and facilitating understanding.

She also serves, is a member of or has contributed to numerous community organizations in various capacities, including but not limited to, the Political Action Committee of the Ventura County Women’s Political Council, the Ventura Surfrider Foundation, the Black American Political Association of California, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the African American Leadership Commission and the Coastal Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy. She has worked with many groups to build consensus and find agreement.

In the past she has been a member of SEIU 721’s African American Caucus and COPE as a former member and sat as a Board member of a local credit union. She believes that protections for the working class are important and should remain intact.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Communication, specializing in Journalism and a master’s degree in Public Policy & Administration from Cal Lutheran University. She also holds an associate’s degree in Bilingual-Cross Cultural Studies from Ventura College.

She served as an activist for student and parents of the Ventura Unified School District. She started the Safe Schools Parent and Community Collaborative with the parents of her district. She is a recent graduate of Emerge CA and she is the proud mother of three mature young men.
