The Democratic Party is opposed to both the proposed treaty, which has been constructed largely in secret, as well as to a “fast-track” authority, which would allow the President of the United States to approve the treaty without input or amendments from Congress.
"Trade agreements have not had a record of preserving American jobs, and have contributed to economic distress and inequality with profits accruing to the top 1% of Americans,” said Ventura County Democratic Party Chairman Thom Tibor. “To make things worse, we are being asked to accept this treaty without knowing its details because of secret negotiations over large portions of it. Therefore, we are asking our elected representatives to vote against what we can only believe is another flawed trade agreement that works against American interests. ”
The resolution will be delivered to the offices of U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley, Senators Feinstein and Boxer, and other local representatives.
